The population of Cyprus in the Government controlled area was estimated at 796.900 at the end of 2008, recording an increase of 1,0% from the previous year.
The population in the district of Nicosia was 313.400 at the end of 2008, in Famagusta 44.300, in Larnaka 133.300, in Limassol 228.900 and in Paphos 77.000. A proportion of 70% resided in the urban areas of Cyprus, whereas a proportion of 30% resided in rural areas.
