SURVEY RESULTS: ADULT EDUCATION SURVEY, 2006

The Statistical Service of Cyprus announces that the first general results of the Adult Education Survey of 2006 are available on its website. The information presented refers to the participation of the population aged 25-64 in learning activities during the previous 12 months. This participation is analysed by type of learning activity, gender, age group, highest educational attainment level, labour status, district and urban/rural area. Also, information is presented regarding the expenditure for participating, the taught hours received, the reason for participating and the obstacles the participant has faced. Additionally, other information related to the participation in learning activities is presented, such as ICT skills, foreign language use and cultural participation.

The main information presented is:

§ The participation of the population aged 25-64 in Formal or Non-Formal learning activities (Lifelong Learning indicator) during the previous 12 months was 40,6%. Men participated with 43,0% and women with 38,2%.

§ The participation of the population aged 25-64 in Informal learning activities during the previous 12 months was 63,6%. Men participated with 60,9% and women with 66,2%.

§ Among those participated in Non-Formal learning activities during the previous 12 months, 48,0% participated in only one activity, 27,0% in two, 14,0% in three and 11,0% in four or more.

§ Among those participated in Non-Formal learning activities, 80,9% participated in at least one job related activity.

§ Among those participated in Non-Formal learning activities, 66,4% participated in at least one activity which was during paid working hours.

§ Τhe per capita expenditure for the previous 12 months of those participated in Non-Formal learning activities, and which was paid by the participant, amounts to €186,40.

§ The average taught hours received by participant in Non-Formal learning activities was 62,1 hours during the previous 12 months.
