Presentation of Credentials of the new Ambassador of Cyprus to Croatia

On 3 October 2019, the new Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to Croatia, with residence in Vienna, Ms Elena Rafti, presented her credentials to the President of the Republic of Croatia, Ms Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović, during an official ceremony which took place in Zagreb. The Ambassador conveyed to the Croatian President the greetings of the President of the Republic of Cyprus Μr Nicos Anastasiades, which Μs Grabar-Kitarović reciprocated.

Ambassador Rafti paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Croatia, Mr Gordan Grlić Radman. The Croatian Foreign Minister briefed the Ambassador of the priorities of the Croatian Presidency of the EU Council, in the first half of 2020. Ms Rafti assured Mr Grlić Radman that the Republic of Cyprus, as a credible and reliable partner, will support the Croatian Presidency. The Croatian Foreign Minister and the Ambassador of Cyprus stressed the importance of further developing the bilateral relations of the two countries, particularly in the fields of economy and trade. They also agreed that the two countries would work to strengthen their cooperation within the EU framework as well as in international organizations, underlining the significance of multilateralism, especially for smaller states.

Finally, the Ambassador informed the Croatian Minister of the latest developments regarding the Cyprus issue, referring particularly to the escalation of the Turkish unlawful actions in Cyprus’ Exclusive Economic Zone.
