The President of the Republic meets with Heads of State and Government and other officials on the sidelines of the 5th World Holocaust Forum in Jerusalem

Support for the efforts by the government of Cyprus to solve the Cyprus problem, as well as for the exercise of the sovereign rights of the Republic of Cyprus, was expressed by the heads of state and government with whom the President of the Republic, Mr. Nicos Anastasiades, met, on the sidelines of the Fifth World Holocaust Forum that is taking place in Jerusalem.

On the sidelines of a reception and a subsequent dinner that was hosted by the President of Israel, Mr. Reuven Rivlin, in honor of the leaders of the countries participating in the Forum, President Anastasiades had the opportunity to speak, among others, with the President of France, Mr. Emmanuel Macron, the Prime Minister of Israel, Mr. Benjamin Netanyahu, the President of the European Council, Mr. Charles Michel, the President of Portugal Mr. Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, the President of Romania Mr. Klaus Iohannis, the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the United States of America, Ms. Nancy Pelosi, and others.

The President of the Republic briefed his interlocutors on the recent violations by Turkey and the dangers that arise from the behavior of Turkey not only for Cyprus but also for Europe itself, as well as for the area of the Eastern Mediterranean.

At the same time, the President also expressed his determination and readiness to engage in a dialogue on the Cyprus problem, without threats and illegal actions on the part of Turkey.

In his conversation with the President of the Republic, the President of the European Council briefed President Anastasiades on the results of his visit to Ankara and the messages he conveyed to the President of Turkey during their meeting.

For his part, the President of France, in his meeting with President Anastasiades, expressed his full support to the Cyprus government with regard to the safeguarding of the sovereign rights of the Republic of Cyprus and the termination of Turkey's illegal actions.

Of great interest was also the conversation of the President of the Republic with the President of the United States House of Representatives, Ms. Nancy Pelosi, who was fully briefed on Turkey's provocative actions in the Exclusive Economic Zone of Cyprus, an awareness that comes from the relevant actions undertaken by the authorities of the Republic of Cyprus, as well as from the intensive efforts exerted by the  Cypriot and Greek American communities and the friends of Cyprus in the U.S. Congress for the safeguarding of the sovereign rights of the Republic of Cyprus.

Ms. Pelosi expressed to President Anastasiades her full support of the Republic of Cyprus, both with regard to exercising its sovereign rights in its Exclusive Economic Zone and to reaching a solution to the Cyprus problem the earliest possible, a solution on the basis of the UN resolutions, international law and the safeguarding of human rights.

All the interlocutors of the President of the Republic expressed their concern about Turkey's behavior toward Cyprus, as well as their full support of the sovereign rights of the Republic of Cyprus and stressed the need for a solution to the Cyprus problem on the basis of the principles and rules of international law.
