Intra & Extra EU Trade Statistics (by commodity and country), January - February 2020

1. The Statistical Service of Cyprus announces that it has published the monthly electronic publication “Intra & Extra EU Trade Statistics (by commodity and country)” for January - February 2020. It includes detailed quantity and value data on imports and exports (of both domestically produced goods and foreign goods), classified at the 6 digits commodity code level and by partner country.

2. The main developments in Cyprus foreign trade were:

(a) Total importsof goods (from EU Member States and from third countries) in January – February 2020 amounted to €1.471,4 mn as compared to €1.387,3 mn in January – February 2019, recording an increase of 6,1%. Total exports of goods (to EU Member States and to third countries) in January – February 2020 were €438,2 mn compared to €722,7 mn in January – February 2019, registering a decrease of 39,4%. The trade deficitwas €1.033,2 mn in January – February 2020 compared to €664,6 mn in the corresponding period of 2019.

(b) The European Union continued to be the main source of supply of goods to Cyprus with €810,3 mn or a share of 55,1% of total imports, while imports from all other European countries (which now also includes the United Kingdom, following its exit from the EU) totalled €139,9 mn in January - February 2020. Imports from the rest of the world amounted to €521,3 mn

(c) Exports to the European Union accounted for €128,2 mn, while exports to all other European countries for €38,4 mn in January - February 2020. Exports to the rest of the world amounted to €271,7 mn

 

3. The monthly electronic publication “Intra & Extra EU Trade Statistics (by commodity and country)” for January - February 2020 is available for download free of charge from the website of the Statistical Service.
