Announcement by the Ministry of Interior on the tragedy in Beirut
In a telephone communication he had today with the Ambassador of Lebanon in Cyprus, Ms Claude El Hajal, the Minister of Interior, Mr Nicos Nouris, expressed his condolences for the tragedy in the neighboring country and the readiness of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Cyprus to provide any assistance considered necessary to transfer persons in medical need or who are in need of any other assistance, to our country.
In addition, the Ministry of Interior rebuts the allegations in today’s publications in the daily press that the owner of the ship «Rhosus», which had transferred the 2,750 tones of nitrate ammonium in Beirut, holds a Cyprus passport.
