Foreign Trade Statistics: June 2020 (Final Data) and July 2020 (Provisional Data)

The Statistical Service of Cyprus announces the release of final data on the foreign trade of Cyprus for June 2020 and of provisional data for July 2020.

Foreign Trade Statistics, June 2020

The main developments in the foreign trade of Cyprus in June 2020 were:

(a) Total imports of goods (from EU Member States and from third countries) amounted to €669,9 mn in June 2020 as compared to €775,6 mn in June 2019, recording a decrease of 13,6%.

(b) Exports of domestically produced products, including stores and provisions, in June 2020 were €135,8 mn as compared to €131,5 mn in June 2019, recording an increase of 3,3%. Domestic exports of industrial products in June 2020 were €126,7 mn compared to €121,3 mn in June 2019, whilst domestic exports of agricultural products in June 2020 were €8,0 mn, remaining at the same level with June 2019.

(c) Exports of foreign products, including stores and provisions, in June 2020 were €140,7 mn as compared to €100,3 mn in June 2019, recording an increase of 40,3%.

The data are included in the monthly electronic publication “Intra & Extra EU Trade Statistics (Summarised Data)” for June 2020, which is available free of charge from the website of the Statistical Service, under the section “Publications” in the statistical theme Foreign Trade.

 

Foreign Trade Statistics, July 2020

On the basis of provisional data, the main developments in the foreign trade of Cyprus in July 2020 can be summarized as follows:

a) Total imports of goods were €618,4 mn as compared to €732,3 mn in July 2019, recording a decrease of 15,6%. Imports from other EU Member States in July 2020 were €432,4 mn and from third countries €186,1 mn, compared to €448,8 mn and €283,6 mn respectively in July 2019. Imports in July 2020 include the transfer of economic ownership of mobile transport equipment (vessels), with total value of €42,6 mn as compared to €42,4 mn in July 2019.

b) Total exports of goods in July 2020 were €209,6 mn as compared to €250,7 mn in July 2019, recording a decrease of 16,4%. Exports to other EU Member States in July 2020 were €61,1 mn and to third countries €148,5 mn, compared to €95,4 mn and €155,2 mn respectively in July 2019. Exports in July 2020 include the transfer of economic ownership of mobile transport equipment (vessels), with total value of €33,4 mn as compared to €33,5 mn in July 2019.

c) Total imports of goods (from EU Member States and from third countries) in January – July 2020 amounted to €4.283,2 mn as compared to €4.853,0 mn in January – July 2019, recording a decrease of 11,7%. Total exports of goods (to EU Member States and to third countries) in January – July 2020 were €1.753,8 mn compared to €1.961,7 mn in January – July 2019, registering a decrease of 10,6%. The trade deficit was €2.529,4 mn in January – July 2020 compared to €2.891,3 mn in the corresponding period of 2019.
