The percentage of employees undergoing rapid antigen tests increases – Which categories of citizens are exempt from the obligation for testing

Following the latest decisions of the Council of Ministers, and based on the Decree, dated 23 April 2021, the Ministry of Health reminds that, with effect from 26 April, the percentage of employees of the private, public and wider public sector, undergoing rapid antigen testing on a weekly basis, increases to 50% of individuals working with physical presence.

It is clarified that testing is mandatory for all individuals in businesses/services, where the number of employees working with physical presence does not exceed five (5) individuals.

It is understood that employers have the responsibility of implementing the provision of the Decree, and must ensure the compliance of their employees with the obligation for weekly testing.

It is reminded that the following categories of employees are exempt from the obligation to undergo rapid antigen tests:

  • Individuals who hold a valid vaccination certificate against COVID-19 issued by the Republic, have completed their vaccination with any licensed vaccine and 14 days have elapsed since the administration of the last dose of the vaccine, and
  • Individuals who have been diagnosed positive for COVID-19 in the last six months.
