Νo ancient monument was affected from the fires in Lemesos and Larnaka Districts

The Department of Antiquities, Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works expresses its deep sadness for the devastating and deadly fires that afflicted the mountainous areas of the Districts of Lemesos and Larnaka.

From Monday morning, July 5th, officers of the Department of Antiquities visited and conducted onsite inspections of the declared ancient monuments based on the Antiquities Law, which were located in the affected areas for assessment of their condition.

The ancient monuments located in the areas affected by the fires are the following: the Church of Timios Stavros and the Church of Panagia Iamatiki in Arakapas, the bridge of Akapnou, the Churches of Agios Georgios and Panagia tou Kampou in Akapnou, the Church of Agia Marina in the community of Odou, the Church of Panagia in Vavatsinia, the Church of Panagia Chryseleousa in Melini, the settlement Parsata in Ora, the Church of Agioi Anargyroi in Agioi Vavatsinias, the Church of the Archangel Michael and the Watermill in Dierona and the Olive Mill in Sykopetra.

It was found that although in some cases the fire reached very close to some monuments, fortunately no monument was affected.
