The President of the Republic will pay an official visit to Bahrain

The President of the Republic, Mr Nicos Anastasiades, will pay an official visit to Bahrain on Monday 13 September, accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Nikos Christodoulides, the Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry, Ms Natasa Pilides, the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Mr Costas Kadis, the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Mr Savvas Perdios and the Government Spokesman, Mr Marios Pelekanos.

The visit takes place within the framework of the Government’s decision to develop the network of bilateral relations with the Arab Gulf countries.

During the visit the President of the Republic will have a meeting with the King of Bahrain Hamad bin Isa Khalifa followed by extended talks with the delegations of the two countries. In addition, a Memorandum of Understanding on Economic and Technical Cooperation and an Agreement on the abolition of visas for holders of diplomatic, special and official passports will be signed.

The Government considers the further development of Cyprus’s relations with Bahrain to be of particular importance, since it upgrades multilateralism of its foreign policy, given that the President of the Republic will, among other issues, discuss Bahrain’s support to Cyprus at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, as well as its support to the President’s initiative on Climate Change.

The visit is also seen as an opportunity for exchanging views on the latest developments in the wider region, with emphasis, on the part of the President, on the Turkish provocations against Cyprus.

It should also be noted that the insular nature, the size of the population, and the strategic geographical location of the two countries create conditions for broader exchange of experience and cooperation in a significant number of sectors.

During his stay in Bahrain, the President of the Republic will visit the Economic Development Board, which deals with matters relating to investments, while on the sidelines of President Anastasiades’ official visit, the accompanying Ministers will hold bilateral meetings with their counterparts.
