Cementography workshop – Saturday, 25.9.21 @ 11.00-14.00 

On the occasion of the retrospective exhibition Past-forward: Stavros Economou Unarchived, a cementography workshop and a documentary screening related to the development of this technique will take place, as part of the exhibition’s public programme series:

‘Cementography’

Inspired by the synergies of architecture and art between Stavros Economou and Christoforos Savva in incorporating cement art reliefs in public and private buildings designed by the former, a cementography workshop will be held at SPEL, led by artist Aristotelis Demetriou.

Cementography is an art form first practiced by Cypriot artist Christoforos Savva in the 1960s, and one that forms an exceptional chapter in the cultural heritage of the island. The workshop offers a creative introduction to the technique, through the making of a collaborative artwork.

Within the framework of the workshop, the documentary "Τσιμεντογραφία–Cementography" by Sylvia Nicolaidou and Nicolas Iordanou will be screened. The documentary follows every stage of the cementography process, while capturing its distinct essence of synergy and collectivity. It also focuses on the continuation of the technique through the work of the Cypriot artist Costas Economou and the creation of his latest cementographies.

The workshop will be held in Greek, with the possibility of simultaneous translation into English, while the documentary is in Greek with English subtitles.
