On the completion of the Acquisition and Cross-Servicing Agreement (ACSA) between the Republic of Cyprus and the United States of America, the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr Charalambos Petrides, and the US Ambassador, Ms Judith Garber, commemorated this development with a signing ceremony event aboard United States Naval Ship YUMA.

During the event, which took place on Monday, 19^th September 2022, the growing defence cooperation between Cyprus and the US was celebrated. In particular, the signing of the ACSA, is a bilateral agreement for the exchange of logistics and services between the Republic of Cyprus and the USA.

In addition, in attendance at the event were National Guard Officers who received training in military academies in the USA, in 2021 and 2022, through the International Military Education and Training (IMET) Program.

In their remarks, both the Minister of Defence and the US Ambassador underlined the importance of such initiatives that promote the strengthening of our cooperation in the fields of security and defence and expressed their hope that the bilateral defence and military cooperation will be further enhanced.

In addition, Mr Petrides welcomed last Friday’s historic decision regarding the lifting of the US arms embargo against Cyprus, and expressed the gratitude of the Republic of Cyprus to the US Administration for this development.

As Minister Petrides underlined, this important development will contribute to the promotion of peace, stability and security in the Eastern Mediterranean.
