Written statement by the Government Spokesman, Mr Marios Pelekanos
The President of the Republic, Mr Nicos Anastasiades, had a telephone conversation, earlier today, with the Turkish Cypriot leader, Mr Tatar, during which he expressed his sincere condolences for the loss of the lives of our compatriots during the devastating earthquakes in Turkey.
President Anastasiades expressed the wish for a happy end to the ongoing operations of the rescue teams to determine the fate of the Turkish Cypriots, who are trapped under the ruins of buildings that have collapsed and, of course, of all the persons who are still missing. He also expressed the readiness of the Republic of Cyprus to provide any additional assistance needed in the efforts being made to rescue them.
