Annual change in sales -7,0 %

In February 2023, the total sales of petroleum products amounted to 107.779 tonnes, recording a decrease of 7,0% compared to February 2022. A decrease was observed in the provisions of marine gasoil (-63,5%) as well as in the sales of heavy and light fuel oil (-24,5% and -9,5% respectively) and road diesel (-0,4%). On the contrary, a rise was recorded in the provisions of aviation kerosene (43,5%), as well as in the sales of asphalt (9,6%), heating gasoil (6,3%), kerosene (5,8%), motor gasoline (3,1%) and liquefied petroleum gases (2,5%). As far as the sales from filling stations are specifically concerned, these have registered a marginal fall of 0,3% to 53.669 tonnes.

The total sales of petroleum products in February 2023 compared to January 2023 recorded a drop of 2,7%. Indicatively, a fall was recorded in the provisions of aviation kerosene (-6,1%) and marine gasoil (-5,9) and of motor gasoline (-3,7%), while the sales of road diesel slightly increased (0,2%). The total stocks of petroleum products at the end of February 2023 rose by 1,0% compared to the end of the previous month.

During the period January – February 2023, the total sales of petroleum products fell by 4,3% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.

Methodological information

Scope and Coverage

The collection of data on Imports, Sales and Stocks of Petroleum Products is carried out on a monthly basis.

It concerns the sales of petroleum products from filling stations and the sales to government departments, to the British Bases and the United Nations, to ships and to other customers, as well as the stocks held at the end of each month. Only the petroleum companies are being covered. Additionally, the imports of petroleum products imported directly from the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) and the manufacturing industry are also included.

Data collection

The collection of data is conducted by the Statistical Service on a monthly basis by electronically receiving a purpose-designed questionnaire from each of these companies.
