Τhe Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to Slovenia presented her credentials

The Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to Slovenia (resident in Vienna), Ms Maria Michail, presented her credentials to the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Ms Nataša Pirc Musar, during an official ceremony, which took place at the Presidential Palace in Ljubljana on 3 May 2023.

During a private meeting with the Slovenian President, the Ambassador conveyed the warm greetings of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr Nikos Christodoulides, as well as his wishes for progress and prosperity for the Slovenian people. She also expressed her commitment to work for the further enhancement and broadening of the already excellent cooperation between the two countries in fields such as defence, trade, climate challenges and crisis management.

The Ambassador also had the opportunity to inform President Musar on the latest developments regarding the Cyprus issue and the provocative and unlawful behaviour of Turkey. Furthermore, she briefed on the new initiative of the President of the Republic for an enhanced role of the European Union in the efforts for the resumption of the negotiations, as well as in the negotiating process within the framework of the Good Offices of the UN Secretary General.

The President of Slovenia expressed her intention to support the efforts for further deepening the relations between Cyprus and Slovenia, expressing at the same time the constant focus of her country on the respect for the international law and the human rights. She also underlined the importance attached by her country to the principles on which the European Union is based, while stressing the significance of the European integration as a catalyst for democratisation, peace and stability.
