Open Call for the Dance Artists Residency Programme at the State Gallery of Contemporary Art - Majestic

The Department of Modern and Contemporary Culture of the Deputy Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with Dance House Lefkosia, announce an Open Call for participation in a Residency Programme at the State Gallery of Contemporary Art - Majestic, during the period September – December 2023, concerning professional dance and performance artists.
The Programme aims to promote synergies between the arts as an integral part of the State Gallery programme, the promotion of the multimodality of the artworks in the permanent exhibition and their alternative interpretations, the engagement of different audiences and the promotion of the work of contemporary Cypriot artists. Proposals should be in relation to and in communication with the permanent exhibition of the State Gallery (artworks and artists) and/or the site (architecture, history and function). The selected artists will have the opportunity to visit regularly, interact with and spend time in the State Gallery space, developing their research and practice in dialogue with the permanent exhibition.
Applications can be submitted by Cypriot or Cyprus-based professional dancers/performers. The application can be for Solo, Duet, or Group work.
The selected artists should be able to visit the State Gallery - Majestic for their research for at least 15 hours per week and to carry out three public activities during their residency: a seminar/collaborative workshop, a discussion/lecture and a performance (in progress) at the end of the Residency Programme.
Interested artists are encouraged to attend one of the sessions to be held at the State Gallery - Majestic on Saturday, 13 May 2023 (10:00-12:00) and Monday, 29 May 2023 (10:00-12:00). During the meetings there will be an opportunity to become acquainted with the Gallery and the permanent exhibition.
RESIDENCY PERIOD:
Each residency will have a duration of two months.
1st period: September – October 2023
2nd period: November – December 2023
SELECTED PROPOSALS:
The program will provide photographic documentation of all public events and meetings with a mentor/dramaturg, to support and help develop the artists' practice, whose appointment will be made by the selection committee according to the proposal’s needs. In addition, each selected proposal will receive:
For a solo participation:
Total Artist's Fee: 2000 euros
Production costs (Materials and/or Technical Support): up to 500 euros*.
For duet/group participation:
Total Artists' Fee: 4000 euros
Production Costs (Materials and/or Technical Support): up to 500 euros*

The selection will be made by Petros Konnaris (A.D. of Dance House Lefkosia, performance artist), Maria Kamberis (choreographer, researcher) and Elena Panagiotou (State Gallery programme and events coordinator, museum educator). The results will be announced by mid-July 2023.
