Minister of Foreign Affairs to participate in the 73rd Session of the United Nations General Assembly and to hold meetings with counterparts and officials

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Nikos Christodoulides, departs tonight via London for New York, to accompany the President of the Republic, Mr Nicos Anastasiades, and participate in the 73rd Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

In the sidelines of the Session, Mr Christodoulides will hold a number of meetings and contacts with counterparts and officials from regional and international organizations. According to the program as it currently stands, Mr Christodoulides will hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Greece, Algeria, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Libya, Montenegro, Morocco, Norway, Oman, Qatar, Syria, Tunisia, the United Arab Emirates and Palestine.

In addition to bilateral contacts, the Foreign Minister will attend a trilateral meeting with the Foreign Ministers of Greece and Egypt and co-chair with his Italian counterpart the First Ministerial Meeting of the Group of Friends for the Protection of Cultural Heritage in New York, which was recently set up at the initiative of Cyprus and Italy. He will also hold meetings with the Secretary-General of the Union for the Mediterranean, the Secretary-General of the Arab League and the United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process.

Furthermore, Mr Christodoulides will attend the ministerial meeting on Syria, the 18th Meeting of Commonwealth Foreign Ministers and the dinner to be hosted in honor of the 28 EU Foreign Ministers by the US Secretary of State.

The Foreign Minister will accompany the President of the Republic to his meetings with the UN Secretary-General, the King of Jordan, the Russian Foreign Minister, the Chinese Foreign Minister and the Permanent Representatives of the five permanent members of the Security Council.

The Foreign Minister will return to Cyprus on Sunday, 30 September 2018.
