The Minister of Foreign Affairs will participate in the Foreign Affairs and General Affairs Councils of the European Union

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides, will be travelling to Luxembourg later today, where he will take part in the Foreign Affairs and General Affairs Councils of the European Union, to be held there on 15 and 16 October, respectively.

The Foreign Affairs Council will examine, inter alia, the situation in Libya, as well as the external aspects of Migration. The Foreign Ministers are also expected to exchange views on the situation in the Central African Republic and discuss the latest developments in Venezuela.

At the end of the Foreign Affairs Council, the Minister will participate in an EU meeting with the six Eastern Partnership countries, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Belarus, in the framework of the institutional dialogue and regular EU meetings with the aforementioned countries.

The General Affairs Council is expected to focus on preparations for the European Council to be held on 18 October and in particular on discussions concerning migration, internal security and external relations. During the Council, Ministers will also have the opportunity to continue discussions on the New Multiannual Financial Framework 2021-2027. In Article 50 formation, the Council will review the latest developments in the negotiations on the UK's exit from the EU.

Mr. Christodoulides will return to Cyprus on 17 October.
