The 7th New Music Festival will take place from 5 to 9 November 2018

The Cultural Services – Ministry of Education and Culture, in cooperation with the Centre of Cypriot Composers and the Cyprus Music Information Centre, are organizing the 7th New Music Festival from 5 to 9 November 2018.

The 7th New Music Festival will present contemporary works by Cypriot and other composers, most in their first world premiere. These works are also the local expression of first-line sound, as it is expressed in the streams of contemporary music today. The festival programme also includes a talk’s session focusing on today’s international new music sound, as well as a music workshop focusing on contemporary techniques in vocal performance.

DissonArt Ensemble (Greece), the famous Thessaloniki-based new music ensemble and old friends of the festival, will return to Cyprus for the closing concert of the festival on November 9th. (Φ) Faos Ensemble (Greece), hosted this year for the first time in Cyprus, will open the festival concert series on November 5th.

Internationally acclaimed vocal artist Natalia Pschenitschnikova (Russia / Germany), will give a concert on November 7th, while also offering a workshop on contemporary techniques in vocal performance on Thursday, November 8th. The festival concert series completes the Composers’ Electroacoustic Ensemble on November 8th.

The series of events of the festival rounds off with an open discussion between two important composers and advocates of new music, Frank J. Oteri (New Music USA) and Athanasios Trikoupis (Greece), on new trends in the international contemporary music field, with particular reference given to the work of ISCM - International Society of Contemporary Music, an international network dedicated to promoting and presenting contemporary music.

All concerts and events will take place in the Kastelliotissa Hall (free entrance). Concerts start at 8.30 pm.
