The Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to the Republic of Armenia presents his credentials
The new Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to the Republic of Armenia, Mr Michael Mavros, presented his credentials to the President of the Republic of Armenia, Μr Vahagn Khachaturyan, in an official ceremony which was held on Monday, 21 October 2024, at the Presidential Palace.
Ambassador Mavros is the first resident Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus in Yerevan.
During a private audience that followed, Ambassador Mavros conveyed to President Khachaturyan the warm greetings of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr Nikos Christodoulides, and expressed his commitment to work towards strengthening the already excellent relations between the two traditionally friendly countries. He further stressed that today is a historic day as it marks the opening of the first Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Yerevan.
Ambassador Mavros referred to Cyprus’ principled position for the respect of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states, and reiterated the Government’s longstanding support to the Armenian Government’s efforts to reach sustainable peace in the region. Furthermore, he reconfirmed Cyprus’ steadfast support for the further deepening of European Union (EU)-Armenia relations.
The Cypriot Ambassador also briefed President Khachaturyan on the latest developments in the Cyprus question, and the ongoing efforts of the Government to reach a solution in accordance with relevant United Nations (UN) Security Council Resolutions.
Welcoming the new Ambassador, President Khachaturyan reciprocated the warm greetings of President Christodoulides. In this context, he thanked the Cyprus Government for its firm support to Armenia on all levels, including within the EU framework. He also reaffirmed Armenia’s continued support in the efforts to find a just and viable solution to the Cyprus question.
In conclusion, he expressed his satisfaction for the opening of the Cyprus Embassy in Yerevan, and underlined his government’s determination to further deepen and strengthen the existing friendly ties between Cyprus and Armenia.
