Signing of an Agreement between Digital Security Authority and the University of Oxford for two important projects for Cyprus

The Commissioner of Electronic Communications and Postal Regulations (CECPR), Mr George Michaelides, attended a ceremony organized at the University of Oxford on the 15th of October 2018 for the signing of two important agreements between the University of Oxford and the Digital Security Authority of Cyprus.

On behalf of the University of Oxford, the ceremony was attended by Professor Michael Goldsmith, Co-Director of the Global Security Capacity Center, Department of Computer Science, and Sir Charles Godfray, Director of Oxford Martin School and Professor of Population Biology in the Zoology Department of the University.

The first project involves the University’s participation in the creation of an Ecosystem to promote the development of innovative solutions to enhance Cyber Security in the international Maritime industry. The Εcosystem will be developed and will work through cooperation between shipping and ship management companies, the academic community, technology companies (including start-ups), investors and the public sector. This pioneering Ecosystem, unique in Europe (and possibly globally), is expected to upgrade the strategic role of the Republic of Cyprus at a regional level, capitalizing on Cyprus’ position in international shipping, as well as contributing to the promotion of innovation in the country.

The second project is a research project to be conducted by the University of Oxford, entitled "Risk Assessment in the Field of Cyber Security in Critical Infrastructures" for the Republic of Cyprus. The aim of the project is to identify, analyse and evaluate risk resulting from Cyberspace, mainly that of the Critical Information Infrastructures (CIIs), within the Republic of Cyprus. Through this project, the Digital Security Authority aims to contribute to the development of existing risk assessment methodologies at a National level.
