Written statement by the Government Spokesman Mr Prodromos Prodromou on the meeting of the President of the Republic with AIPAC

The President of the Republic Mr Nicos Anastasiades held today, at the Presidential Palace, a meeting with the leadership and large delegation of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC).

AIPAC is a political organisation with the mission to defend, reinforce and promote relations between the United States of America and Israel and has wide influence in the United States.

Issues discussed at the meeting included the relations of Cyprus and the Jewish diaspora in the United States of America, the relations between Cyprus and Israel, the relations between Cyprus and the United States, the trilateral cooperation of Cyprus, Israel and Greece, as well as energy and regional issues.

The leadership of AIPAC thanked the President of the Republic for welcoming them to Cyprus and for the productive and warm-hearted meeting, and expressed their gratification for the continuously upgraded Cyprus-Israeli relations, as well as for the prospects of the trilateral cooperation. They also underlined the importance of the expansion of this cooperation through the participation of the United States. The AIPAC leadership also thanked the President for accepting their invitation to address AIPAC’s Policy Conference next March, in Washington DC.

The President of the Republic praised the close and continuously strengthening relations between Cyprus and Israel, and underlined the prospects that the trilateral cooperation opens up, and which the US also consider as a fundamental pillar of stability and security in our region. The President elaborated on the existing prospects to further strengthen the relations between Cyprus and Israel in many fields and thanked AIPAC, and the Jewish diaspora in general, for their positive role in upgrading both the Cyprus-US and Cyprus-Israeli relations as well as for the quadrilateral cooperation in our region.
