Government Labour Force by category: March 2019

Government Labour Force: 51.995

In March 2019 the Government labour force increased by 108 persons (0,2%) in comparison to the corresponding month of 2018 and reached 51.995 persons. Permanent staff decreased by 585 persons (-1,6%). Casual staff increased by 4,3% and reached 16.948 persons compared to 16.255 persons in March 2018.

 

 

Compared to March 2018 there is an increase of staff in both the Civil Service and in Education. The largest increase is observed in Education (2,2%) and more specifically in the number of casual staff which increased by 13,4% (463 persons). 

Compared to February 2019, the number of persons in Education increased by 1,3% (179 persons) mainly due to the increase of casual staff by 4,7%. In all other categories there is a decrease in the number of staff. The highest decrease is observed in the Hourly Paid Workers by -1,7% (147 persons) which is mainly due to casual staff decrease (-6,6%).

METHODOLOGICAL INFORMATION

Coverage

Government includes Civil Service, Educational Service, Military Personnel and Hourly Paid Workers. Civil Service includes the staff (either permanent or casual) of the Ministries, Departments and Services. Educational Service includes the permanent and casual educational staff that is occupied in school units and the staff of Cyprus Productivity Center and the Higher Hotel Institute of Cyprus. Military Personnel include Police Service, Fire Service and the National Guard. The members of the House of Representatives are not included.

Collection of data

Data concerning employment in Government is provided from the Treasury and refers to the number of persons that were paid in the current month.
