Film Classification

The Press and Information Office (PIO) through the Cyprus Film Classification Council on the basis of Law 238 (I) of 2002, is entrusted with the task of coordinating matters pertaining to the classification of films to be screened in movie theaters in Cyprus.

Film classification is carried out by the Cyprus Film Classification Council, which is appointed by the Minister of the Interior for a term of five years and comprises 30 members representing various professional and social groups in Cyprus. The Council is chaired by the Director of the PIO and the Secretariat duties are carried out by the personnel of the Press and Information Office.

The Cyprus Film Classification Council classifies, based on specific criteria, the films that will be screened in movie theaters.

The Committee classifies the films in a specially designed Cinema Room at the PIO.
