European Statistics Day – 20 October 2019
The European Statistics Day is celebrated every year on the 20th of October and complements the World Statistics Day which takes place every five years. This years’ motto “Look at the facts”, aims at highlighting the important role of official statistics in our society. Official statistics provide a comprehensive picture of socio-economic and other issues, helping policymakers, businesses and citizens to formulate evidence-based decisions and plans for a better future.
For more than 60 years, the statistical Authorities of the European Union's Member States have been working together with Eurostat (the Statistical Office of the European Union), to produce reliable and comparable statistics at European level. In Cyprus, the responsible Authority for the compilation and dissemination of most of the official statistics is the Statistical Service (CYSTAT).
In the framework of the celebration of the European Statistics Day, CYSTAT and the Cyprus Statistical Society are organizing an event on "The usefulness of official statistics in Cyprus". Official statistics are a reliable and rich source of information for politicians, officials, businesses, researchers, students and the general public. The usefulness of the official statistics is expected to be highlighted by the speakers of the event, who represent different user categories.
The event, which is open to the public, will take place on October 21st at 11:00 am at the premises of the Ministry of Finance.
