Gradual vaccination with 3rd dose for individuals aged 65 and over to begin at walk-in vaccination centres

Pending the setting-up of the Vaccination Portal, so that beneficiaries may arrange an appointment for vaccination with the 3rd dose of the vaccine against COVID-19, based on age criteria, the Ministry of Health proceeds to facilitate citizens aged 86 and over through walk-in centres, as of Wednesday, September 22, 2021. The mRNA vaccines (Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna) will be administered for the booster dose, regardless of the vaccine that was administered during the initial vaccination.

The walk-in vaccination centres for the 3rd dose will operate at the following locations, from Monday to Thursday, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.:

It is emphasized that the Ministry of Health has made arrangements and has secured sufficient quantities of vaccines for everyone who will choose to be vaccinated with the 3rd dose. Therefore, citizens are encouraged to visit the Centres throughout operating hours, in order to limit their waiting time and to avoid inconvenience at the Vaccination Centre. It is reminded that all citizens must carry proof of identity (e.g. Identity Card, Passport, Alien Registration Card, etc.).

It is clarified that the age limit of the beneficiaries will lower gradually, according to the volume of attendance. Citizens are invited to follow-up on the announcements that will be issued by the Ministry of Health regarding the prioritized age groups.

It is reminded that beneficiaries for vaccination with a booster dose are citizens who have completed their vaccination scheme (vaccination with the 2nd dose of the vaccine) by March 31, 2021 and fall into the age group that is announced at each stage. For example, individuals aged 86 and over, who have been vaccinated but six months have not elapsed since their vaccination with the 2nd dose, are not able to receive the 3rd dose at the moment.

Finally, it is noted that the arrangement of an appointment for the 3rd dose through the Vaccination Portal is expected to be made possible at the beginning of October and a relevant update will follow.
