SafePass possession checks via the CovScan application will be optional until 22 November

Following yesterday’s decision of the Council of Ministers that checks for a SafePass would be carried out via the CovScan Cyprus application, the Ministry of Health would like to inform citizens that this measure will be implemented optionally and on a pilot basis from 8 until 22 November. It will be rendered mandatory after that date, in order to provide ample adjustment time both for those carrying out the checks and citizens.

With this arrangement, most citizens will have the opportunity to acquire the European Digital Certificate (EUDCC) – including a QR code – for SafePass purposes.

More information on the mandatory implementation of this measure after 22 November will be announced at a later date.

It is noted that the application can be installed on any device that uses Android software and is available free of charge via Google Play. An explanatory video on how the application works can be found at the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WFa0Cta2VLw.

The application quickly and safely certifies the validity of the European Digital Certificate (EUDCC) for SafePass purposes and is expected to facilitate the check process.

The check through the application is done by scanning the QR code indicated on the certificate (in paper or electronic form) and presents the following validity check results:

— Green: The certificate is valid and means that the holder has completed his/her vaccination scheme or has become ill with COVID-19.

— Yellow/Amber: The certificate is valid and means that the holder has undergone a PCR or rapid antigen test with a negative result.

— Red: The certificate is invalid.

It is stressed that the application was designed in compliance with all the provisions for the protection of personal data, shows only the name and date of birth of the holder and does not store the personal data of citizens or the history of their checks.
