Statement by the Minister of Finance, Mr Constantinos Petrides, following his meeting with the Managing Director of the SIX Swiss Exchange and the Chairman of the Cyprus Stock Exchange

The Ministry of Finance welcomes the successful collaboration between the SIX Swiss Exchange and the Cyprus Stock Exchange (CSE), since it will provide a new source of liquidity for the Republic of Cyprus’ funding vehicles, improving the effectiveness of public debt management, which is a high priority for the Ministry of Finance.

The establishment of a post-trade infrastructure through the collaboration of CSE with SIX will also enrich the services provided by the CSE, improving its financial position and facilitating its role in the Cypriot economy. This will also open an additional avenue for Cypriot investors to invest and trade in the Republic’s international bond issuances.

Finally, the dual - listing of the Cypriot Euro Medium Term Notes (EMTN) at the Cyprus Stock Exchange will add a new sector in the Cypriot capital market that did not exist before. This will enhance the realisation of forming an innovative and digital financial market infrastructure, which is another priority of the Ministry of Finance, contributing to economic growth and societal outcomes for Cyprus.
