Imports, sales and stocks of petroleum products: January 2022

Annual change in sales +25,8%

In January 2022, the total sales of petroleum products amounted to 112.423 tonnes, recording a rise of 25,8% compared to January 2021. An increase was observed in the provisions of aviation kerosene (216,5%) and marine gasoil (46,2%), as well as in the sales of kerosene (34,7%), heating gasoil (34,1%), liquefied petroleum gases (28,6%), motor gasoline (27,4%), light fuel oil (16,3%) and road diesel (5,1%). On the contrary, a decrease was recorded in the sales of asphalt (-36,8%) and heavy fuel oil (-35,8%). As far as the sales from filling stations are specifically concerned, these have registered an increase of 21,4% to 54.682 tonnes.

The total sales of petroleum products in January 2022 compared to December 2021 recorded a drop of 13,2%. Indicatively, the sales of motor gasoline fell by 23,0%, those of road diesel by 20,7%, and the provisions of aviation kerosene dropped by 21,1%. The total stocks of petroleum products at the end of January 2022 increased by 12,9% compared to the end of the previous month.

METHODOLOGICAL INFORMATION

Scope and Coverage

The collection of data on imports, sales and stocks of petroleum products is carried out on a monthly basis.

It concerns the sales of petroleum products from filling stations and the sales to government departments, to the British Bases and the United Nations, to ships and to other customers, as well as the stocks held at the end of each month. Only the petroleum companies are being covered. Additionally, the imports of petroleum products imported directly from the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) and the manufacturing industry are also included.

Data collection

The collection of data is conducted by the Statistical Service on a monthly basis by electronically receiving a purpose-designed questionnaire from each of these companies.
