The Department of Antiquities is organizing a concert titled “Kypris”

The Department of Antiquities, Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works announces that on the 24th June 2022 at 20:00 the internationally acclaimed and award-winning Cypriot artist Alexia Vassiliou will be presenting her work “Kypris”. The concert is organized within the framework of the celebrations for International Museum Day and the reopening of the Archaeological Museum of Larnaka District, with free entry.

Inspired by the antiquities on display at the Larnaka Museum and the various themes that they express, such as the natural world, birth, death and ritual, Alexia’s artistic approach represents the feminine perspective of storytelling, allowing the audience, the individual, to create their own experience within the reinterpretation. In essence it is the correlation between the antiquities, the interpretation, and the meaning we assign to them. Through spoken word narratives, songs, sound effects, and improvisations, Alexia creates a sonic auditory landscape, a soundscape of imageries creating a bridge between the ancient world and the present. The musical program will be woven with commentary/storytelling from Iosif Hadjikyriakos

In ancient inscriptions, the epithet Kypris was given to Cyprus’ most emblematic female deity, demonstrating the widespread worship of the goddess, on an island-wide scale.
