Curriculum vitae of the new Commissioner for Gender Equality, Ms Josie Christodoulou

Ms Josie Christodoulou holds a degree in Psychology, from the University of Indianapolis USA, and a postgraduate degree in Gender Studies from Middlesex University, UK. She is an expert on issues related to women’s rights and the promotion of gender equality, as well as immigration and combating human trafficking. From 2004 until 2018 she has worked as policy Coordinator at the Mediterranean Institute of Gender Studies (MIGS), where she was actively involved in developing, monitoring and implementing the Institute’s policy and strategy. She has participated in various boards such as that of the Cyprus Women’s Lobby and has contributed in the creation of the European Female Immigrants Network, based in Brussels. She has also participated in expert groups of the European Commission and the Council of Europe on issues pertaining to combating human trafficking.

From 2019 to January 2022, she has served as advisor to former Foreign Minister, Mr Nikos Christodoulides, on gender mainstreaming in foreign policy, for which she developed and implemented an action plan.

She has contributed to drafting bills related to women’s rights and combating human trafficking. She is also a contributor to publications, including research reports and books, she has carried out seminars and training sessions and has participated in international and national conferences.
