The Ambassador of Cyprus to Albania presents his credentials
The Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to the Republic of Albania, with residence in Athens, Mr Stavros Avgoustides, presented his credentials to President Bajram Begaj, in an official ceremony held on 14th May 2024, in Tirana.
During a courtesy meeting that followed, Ambassador Avgoustides conveyed to President Bagai the cordial greetings of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr Nikos Christodoulides, expressing the readiness of Cyprus to further enhance our relations in all sectors, and to strengthen cooperation with Albania on both a bilateral and multilateral level.
On his part, President Begai conveyed his warm greetings to President Christodoulides, underlining his country's will and determination to further develop and expand relations with Cyprus, both bilaterally and in a multilateral context.
Albania’s European Union (EU) path and the progress achieved in its harmonisation with the acquis Communautaire was also discussed, with Mr Avgoustides referring to the benefits and obligations arising from Albania’s pre-accession path. In this context, President Begai welcomed the possibility of assistance offered by the Republic of Cyprus through technical expertise, in the framework of his country’s harmonisation process with the acquis communautaire.
During his stay in Albania, the Cypriot Ambassador, accompanied by the Embassy’s Counsellor, Mr Neophytos Constantinou, held a series of meetings in the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, as well as with other officials serving in the country. Mr Avgoustides met, inter alia, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs, Mr Igli Hasani, the Director of the Department of Neighbouring Countries, Mr Kastriot Robo, the Director of the European Affairs Directorate, Mrs Admira Jorgji, as well as the Head of Political Affairs of the EU Delegation in Tirana, Mr André Rizzo, with whom he discussed ways of further strengthening cooperation in the areas of their competencies.
