Foreign Minister, Mr Nikos Christodoulides, to participate in the General Affairs and Foreign Affairs Councils of the EU, in Brussels, on Dec. 10 and 11

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Nikos Christodoulides, will travel to Brussels on Sunday, December 9, 2018, to attend the Foreign Affairs and General Affairs Councils of the European Union to be held on Monday and Tuesday, 10 and 11 December, respectively.

The Foreign Affairs Council is expected to focus, inter alia, on the situations in the Western Balkans, Venezuela and Iran. Furthermore, the Foreign Ministers of the 28 member states will exchange views on EU cooperation with the African Union, and will also discuss the latest developments in Ukraine, in view of the informal working lunch they will be having on Monday with the Ukrainian Foreign Minister.

Within the framework of the General Affairs Council, the Ministers will review the progress of negotiations on the Multiannual Financial Framework for the period 2021-27 and prepare the draft Conclusions that will be put before the Heads of States at the upcoming European Council, on 13-14 December, dealing, inter alia, with the European Union's policy on Migration, the Single Market and the next Multiannual Financial Framework.

On the sidelines of the sessions of the two Councils, Mr. Christodoulides is due to attend a working breakfast organized by his Austrian counterpart on Monday, Mrs. Karin Kneissl, with the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Mr. Peter Maurer, whilst later on the same day, he will hold a bilateral meeting with his Romanian counterpart, Mr. Teodor Meleşcanu, whose country will be taking over the rotating presidency of the Council of the EU on 1st January 2019. On Tuesday morning, Mr. Christodoulides will take part in a meeting of EU Foreign Ministers belonging to the European Peopleʼs Party (EPP).

From Brussels, Mr. Christodoulides will travel to Strasbourg to accompany the President of the Republic, who is due to address the European Parliament's plenary session on Wednesday, December 12th, on the “Future of Europe”.
