We welcome the statement that was made by the Government of the United Kingdom with regard to the treatment that fighters were subjected to in the course of the Struggle of EOKA (1955-'59) and the sorrow that is expressed about the fact that five years of violence and loss of life preceded the Independence of Cyprus.

It is a courageous act, in the framework of mutual sincerity and understanding with which historical facts must be addressed.

Today, with absolute respect for History, but leaving behind the passions of the past, we must learn from History and look forward. What we see in the present and the future are the excellent relations between our people and our two countries, and what we look at is that there is always room for their deepening and strengthening.
