First day of 20th World Conference of Overseas Cypriots deliberations

With the participation of delegates from all over the world, the main part of the deliberations of the 20th World Conference of Overseas Cypriots by the World Federation of Overseas Cypriots (POMAK), the International Coordinating Committee “Justice for Cyprus” (PSEKA) and the Youth of the World Federation of Overseas Cypriots (NEPOMAK) hosted in Cyprus, began today, at Filoxenia Conference Center, in Lefkosia.

The deliberations of the 20th were declared, last night by the President of the Republic, Mr Nicos Anastasiades, at Filoxenia Conference Center, in Lefkosia.

On the first day, delegates were briefed, in a closed session, by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Nikos Christodoulides, on Cyprus foreign policy and on the latest news concerning the Cyprus problem.

A meeting of the Central Committee was afterwards held, chaired by POMAK President, Mr Andreas Papaevripides, during which a financial and an activity review was performed through the Audit Committee report.

The delegates had then the opportunity to participate in discussions with leaders and representatives of political parties about various issues and especially about the Cyprus problem.

At the same time, the Presidential Commissioner, Mr Photis Photiou had a meeting with young people of the Diaspora from Cyprus, Greece and Israel, who participate at the Youth Trilateral Conference, whose materialization had been included at the Trilateral Declaration of State Leaders on Diaspora issues (December, 2018). The meeting was held at the presence of representatives from the Embassies of Greece and Israel.

Aside to the Conference deliberations, the Presidential Commissioner, Mr Photis Photiou, attended a trilateral meeting between Cyprus, Greece and Armenia, with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece – Minister for Diaspora Greeks, Mr Antonis Diamataris and with the Armenian High Commissioner for Diaspora, Mr Zareh John Sinanyan. where they decided to deepen their cooperation in matters of diaspora.

In the afternoon, a presentation of the Guide for Cyprus Diaspora and Repatriates and investment opportunities in Cyprus took place in the framework of the Conference. At 18.45 the Central Committee of Overseas Cypriots organizations will be received by President Anastasiades at the Presidential Palace, who will host a reception in the honour of the delegates.
