The new Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to North Macedonia, Mr Demetrios A. Theophylactou, presented on the 2nd of June his credentials to the President of the country, Mr Stevo Pendarovski.

Conveying the cordial greetings of the President of the Republic, Mr. Nicos Anastasiades, Mr Theophylactou expressed the government’s commitment to upgrade bilateral relations and strengthen the ties of friendship between the two countries, at the European and the international level, reiterating the support of Cyprus concerning the European perspective of the country. Ambassador Theophylactou thanked President Pendarovski for the consistent support of his country concerning the solution of the Cyprus issue.

Responding with his own best wishes to the cordial greetings of the President of the Republic, President Pendarovski referred to the friendly relations and mutual understanding between North Macedonia and Cyprus and expressed his gratitude to the Ambassador for the support of the Republic of Cyprus concerning the accession of his country to the European Union, stating that it was very much appreciated.

Concluding, Mr. Pendarovski stressed, in relation to the Cyprus question, that respect for international law was valued highly by his country, expressing the wish that the efforts of the United Nations bear fruit in the near future to achieve the reunification of Cyprus for the benefit of all Cypriot people, on the basis of the agreed framework.
