The Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to Turkmenistan presents his credentials

At a special ceremony held on 16 February 2018 in Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan, the Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to the Russian Federation Mr Leonidas S. Markides presented his credentials as the new Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to Turkmenistan. The Speaker of the Parliament Ms Akja Nurberdyeva received the credentials, on behalf of the President Mr Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

Presenting his credentials Ambassador Markides conveyed greetings of President Anastasiades to President Berdimuhamedov and best wishes for his personal prosperity and for the prosperity of the people of Turkmenistan, and expressed his readiness to work for further strengthening the relations of the two countries in all areas.

Ms Nurberdyeva congratulated the Ambassador for taking up his duties and referred to the prospects that exist for strengthening cooperation between Cyprus and Turkmenistan. She also briefed extensively on the priorities of President Berdimuhamedov's foreign and domestic policy, particularly in the fields of development, education science and culture.

In a separate meeting with Deputy Foreign Minister Mr Vepa Hajiev, Ambassador Markides briefed on recent developments in the Cyprus issue and discussed issues related to bilateral relations. Both emphasized the desire to enhance cooperation between Cyprus and Turkmenistan in all areas, with particular emphasis on the political, economic, investment, tourism and energy sectors.
