The President of the Republic of Cyprus and the President of the European Commission will attend an event marking the 20th anniversary of the accession of Cyprus to the EU, at the Presidential Palace

The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr Nikos Christodoulides, and the President of the European Commission, Mrs Ursula von der Leyen, will attend an event to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the accession of the Republic of Cyprus to the European Union (EU) on Wednesday, 1 May 2024, at 6 pm, at the Presidential Palace.

During the event, Mrs von der Leyen will address the ceremony whilst the President of the Republic of Cyprus will be the keynote speaker.

The Cypriot Commissioner for Health and Food Safety of the European Union, Mrs Stella Kyriakidou will also attend the event, together with political party leaders, ambassadors of EU member states and other officials.

High school pupils will present their activities in the framework of the "European Parliament Ambassador School" programme (EPAS). Moreover, students from the Music School of Nicosia perform songs under the artistic direction of Mariza Anastasiades.

During the event, the President of the Republic of Cyprus and the President of the European Commission will symbolically plant an olive tree in the gardens of the Presidential Palace. Meanwhile, a photographic exhibition by the Press and Information Office will present pictures from the period before and after Cyprus' accession to the EU, will follow.
