The Chief Returning Officer, Mr Kypros Kyprianou, announced that at 7a.m. ballot boxes opened at all polling stations in Cyprus, Greece and Bulgaria, and voting has begun for the election of the President of the Republic of Cyprus.

He added that voting runs smoothly and everything is proceeding generally calmly and orderly.

Mr Kyprianou said that polling stations will remain open until 12 p.m. and after one hour’s interval they will reopen at 1p.m. and voting will continue and end at 6p.m.

He pointed out that the Presiding officer may prolong the voting time in the event that voters are standing outside the polling station waiting to vote.
